![]() Small Business Exporter of the Year
The Pennsylvania Exporter of the Year Award is a statewide honor that recognizes exemplary achievements in exporting. The award is based in part on the company's year-to-year percentage of increase in international sales, the number of new markets developed, and the formation of productive trade alliances. James Burger Helsel Lumber Mill opened for business in 1926. Located in Duncansville, the business originally operated as a sawmill with three employees producing approximately 100,000 board feet per year. Another family member took over the mill in 1965. In 1973, he began to upgrade the equipment and to expand the business. The company's current primary officers purchased the mill in 2001. Helsel Lumber Mill began exporting hardwood lumber to Canada in 1995. Since that time, exports have expanded to include sales to Europe and Asia. Helsel's sales staff works with their customers to modify each order to match the customer's individual specifications. |
